Volunteer

If you join our team, you may get tired of us saying, “thank you.” We are not only so thankful for our volunteers, but we consider them our teammates as we cannot carry out our programming without them. If you are interested in volunteering with us please review the current opportunities on this page and complete the form below to learn more about each role.

CCC Kids and Teen Club Volunteer

Desired skills: Experience with, and passion for, working with children and teens. Preferred experience with children and teens facing acute or chronic illness. A great teammate.

Commitment: Preferably a minimum of 7 of 12 Monthly Community Nights. Exceptions can be made for specific needs. Generally 2-3 hours per event.

Details: Kids and Teen Club Volunteers work primarily with children and teens at CCC events. They are generally self-sufficient once trained to join the team, and may be asked to participate in, or lead various activities. An interview with the program coordinator will determine the specifics of a best fit within programming based on the volunteers desires. In addition to planned activities, volunteers may be asked to assist with clean up or setup of events.

Required: Must pass a background check and must be 16 years of age or older.

Community Night Assistant

Desired skills: Responsible, with an outgoing personality and the ability to make people feel at ease.  Organized, with the skill to provide leadership.

Commitment: Preferably a minimum of 9 of 12 months per year. Exceptions can be made for specific needs.  Time commitment of 5-6 hours per month.

Details: Community Night Assistant will work with our serving groups at each Community Night to make them feel welcomed and to provide them guidance throughout the evening.  In addition, the assistant will welcome community groups as they arrive to drop off items for the evening, organize and arrange these items, make families feel at ease throughout the evening, and help with cleanup. (Time commitment is from approximately 3-9pm each Community Night).

Required: Must be an adult and must pass a background check.

Monthly Community Night Meal Volunteer

Desired skills: Ability to plan a meal for a mid-sized to large group.

Commitment: Serving of a meal at Monthly Community Night.

Details: One of the most enjoyable parts of a Monthly Community Night is that the families are able to share a meal together. For some, this is one of the few prepared, relaxed, and nutritional meals of the month. We have had community groups of all shapes and sizes serve meals! Like to cook? That works. Want to cater? That works as well. Meal volunteers are also invited to decorate and plan around a theme. It’s a great team building opportunity, a simple volunteer experience outside of day-to-day life, and the families served are so appreciative.

Required: Must connect with Childhood Cancer Community ahead of event for more information and to book an evening for your group.

Note that not all Monthly Community Nights take place on Sunday evenings, though most do. Please reach out to inquire about current availability.

Monthly Gift Bag Volunteer

Desired Skills: A creative eye, and desire to give of your time!

Commitment: Develop and assemble gift bags for each child and teen at a CCC event.

Details: Our families are treated with the utmost of respect and we aim to make each one feel special at each of our events. One of the ways we do this is by provision of special gift bags for each child and teen who attend. Volunteers are welcome to be as creative as they would like with these, and they do not need to be complex. If you have an idea and you or a team of yours would like to provide these, please reach out.

Required: Must connect with CCC ahead of event for more information and to book an event.

CCC Fundraiser

Desired Skills: Wonderful personality, passion for families with childhood cancer, and professional ideas!

Details: Are you interested in helping but not sure that you can commit to one of the roles above? Some of our volunteers prefer to do fundraisers instead. We are open to new ideas, thankful for the efforts of these volunteers, and can provide promotion of your event or activity if it fits into our calendar. If you are interested in collecting items for our wish list, please click here to see our current needs.

Preferred: If you are able, please connect with us ahead of your event so that we might provide any guidance on messaging needed.

Volunteer Application:

I love volunteering for Childhood Cancer Community because it has changed my perspective. My time here has taught me to be brave, resilient, and always optimistic - and most of the teachers are half my age! ‘Heartwarming’ is definitely an understatement when it comes to trying to describe this community.
— Tessa Villenueve, Volunteer

Volunteering with CCC provides me with an avenue to do what I care most about, and that is supporting families and children facing childhood cancer. I want families to know they are not alone, and they have people here to support them throughout their journey with childhood cancer.
— Jessica Wadium, Volunteer

Today, I work as a certified child life specialist and I help to plan the monthly crafts and activities for the Childhood Cancer Community kids/teens to do while their parents have sharing time together at the monthly family meetings. Childhood Cancer Community serves families when they most need a community to walk alongside them, and I’m proud to be a small part of that.
— Rachel Guibert, Volunteer

What I love most about volunteering for Childhood Cancer Community is seeing happiness on a child’s face. It reminds me of how nice it is to have something to fall back on when your life has been turned upside down. After experiencing cancer first-hand, this organization has allowed me to grow and enjoy the little things that community amidst cancer offers.”

I have been volunteering for CCC since its founding. As a chemotherapy nurse, it is so rewarding to see my patients and their families in a setting outside of the hospital walls. This community has even provided much needed support during my own journey of caring for my chronically ill son. It’s an honor to be a part of the sharing of hope that takes place here.
